South Africa has achieved over 460 consecutive days without national power cuts, a milestone that President Cyril Ramaphosa attributes to the efforts of the African National Congress (ANC). Speaking at the launch of the ANC manifesto before the local government elections on November 4, Ramaphosa highlighted the role of improved electricity generation and enhanced management at Eskom in resolving the country’s long-standing electricity load-shedding crisis.
Eskom, the national power utility, has confirmed that South Africa has not experienced load shedding since May 16, 2025. This improvement is credited to better performance at power stations and a reduction in unplanned outages, which have bolstered the reliability of electricity supply across the country.
Despite these advances, certain communities are still dealing with load reduction. This measure is implemented to protect local electricity networks from becoming overloaded. President Ramaphosa acknowledged these ongoing challenges and noted that efforts to address load reduction issues are particularly focused in regions like Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.
Ramaphosa expressed optimism about the future, stating that the government is committed to eliminating load reduction nationwide. He emphasized the continued dedication to strengthening the country’s power infrastructure and ensuring a stable electricity supply for all residents.
