Vietnam is actively pursuing enhanced trade and investment partnerships with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Egypt, focusing on broadening market access and solidifying economic collaborations. During discussions, Vietnamese Vice President Võ Thị Ánh Xuân emphasized the importance of fully leveraging the Vietnam-EAEU Free Trade Agreement to bolster bilateral trade and investment. She advocated for potential upgrades to the agreement and called upon the EAEU to address specific trade barriers impacting Vietnamese goods such as textiles, footwear, and rice.
The dialogue between the parties also touched on improving the coordination of trade data, expediting the scheduling of joint committee meetings, and increasing the use of electronic certificates of origin. EAEU representatives noted the near doubling of bilateral trade and underscored the potential for further expansion in economic activities.
In a separate engagement, Vice President Xuân met with Hussein Mohamed Ahmed Eissa, the Egyptian Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, to discuss the deepening of high-level exchanges and economic cooperation between Vietnam and Egypt. Xuân advocated for progress towards establishing a Vietnam-Egypt free trade agreement and identified key sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, tourism, digital transformation, education, and renewable energy as promising areas for strengthened collaboration.
These meetings took place in Bishkek, coinciding with Vietnam’s participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Plus Summit. This outreach underscores Hanoi’s strategic initiative to bolster economic and diplomatic relations with partners in the region.
