Chinese President Xi Jinping has emphasized the importance of strengthening ties and expanding cooperation with Egypt as he begins his visit to Cairo, underscoring the enduring relationship between the two nations. Upon arrival, Xi and First Lady Peng Liyuan were greeted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his wife, marking a significant moment as China and Egypt celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations.
In a pre-visit statement, Xi highlighted the robust relationship maintained by China and Egypt despite global changes. He advocated for enhanced efforts to deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership and explore new collaborative avenues. Xi pointed out the alignment of national development goals between the two countries, suggesting they should integrate their strategies, particularly through cooperative ventures under the Belt and Road Initiative that promise long-term economic rewards.
The Chinese leader also proposed expanding collaboration in diverse fields such as education, tourism, science and technology, healthcare, sports, and archaeology. He emphasized that such exchanges would foster better mutual understanding and strengthen the bond between their peoples. Xi reiterated the importance of mutual support on key issues and safeguarding common interests, positioning Egypt as a crucial partner in boosting China’s ties with Arab countries and Africa.
Both nations, according to Xi, have pivotal roles within the Global South and should enhance coordination on international matters, support multilateral efforts, and contribute to global peace and stability. The visit is anticipated to bolster political and economic relations between Beijing and Cairo, unlocking new opportunities in trade, infrastructure, technology, and other sectors.
Xi expressed China’s willingness to collaborate with Egypt to build upon seven decades of diplomatic engagement, aiming to inject fresh momentum into their comprehensive strategic partnership.
