The City of Cape Town has announced a planned 10-hour power outage affecting over 60 areas as part of essential maintenance and upgrades to its electricity infrastructure. The interruption is scheduled to occur from 10 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, until 8 a.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2026. This effort aims to enhance the reliability and resilience of the city’s power supply.
The maintenance will impact numerous areas in the southern part of Cape Town, including Muizenberg, St James, Clovelly, Fish Hoek, Kalk Bay, Simon’s Town, Sun Valley, Noordhoek, Kommetjie, Ocean View, Masiphumelele, Steenberg, and Westlake. The city has urged residents to switch off electrical appliances before the outage to safeguard them from potential power surges when electricity is restored.
Officials have advised residents to treat all electrical installations as live throughout the maintenance period, even if there is an interruption in power. While the outage is scheduled to last for 10 hours, the City of Cape Town has indicated that electricity may be restored earlier than planned, depending on the progress of the work.
This initiative is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to address ageing electricity infrastructure and to ensure a stable and reliable power supply for its residents. By undertaking these upgrades, Cape Town aims to minimize future disruptions and enhance the overall efficiency of its electricity network.
