Togo has introduced a new visa-free entry policy for citizens of all African nations, effective from May 18. This initiative allows travelers to visit and stay in the country for up to 30 days without the need for a visa, with the goal of enhancing regional integration and boosting tourism, trade, and business opportunities throughout the continent.
Despite the waiver of visa requirements, African visitors must still comply with immigration, security, and public health protocols. Additionally, travelers are required to submit a travel declaration through an official government platform at least 24 hours prior to their arrival to secure the necessary entry documentation.
The Togolese government has expressed that this move is a testament to its dedication to transforming the nation into a center for mobility, cooperation, and economic growth in Africa. The policy is expected to attract investors, skilled professionals, entrepreneurs, and tourists, thereby strengthening economic ties within the region.
This visa-free initiative is part of Togo’s broader vision to establish its capital, Lomé, as a pivotal hub for trade, investment, and services in West Africa. It also aligns with the continent-wide effort to minimize travel restrictions in support of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) goals.
Following in the footsteps of countries like Rwanda, Ghana, and Benin, Togo’s decision reflects a growing trend among African nations to facilitate the movement of people and enhance economic cooperation across the continent.
