The South African Weather Service has issued a series of yellow-level warnings affecting various regions across the country. These warnings, which are active in five provinces, highlight concerns over damaging winds, disruptive rain, and severe thunderstorms. Among these, three Yellow Level 4 alerts are particularly noteworthy, with one covering the coastline stretching from Alexander Bay in the Northern Cape to Plettenberg Bay in the Western Cape. This warning cautions of potentially hazardous winds and waves that could impact ports, harbours, and marine navigation.
Additionally, another Yellow Level 4 warning addresses damaging winds in parts of the Northern Cape and Western Cape, suggesting potential risks to infrastructure, temporary structures, and utilities. Meanwhile, a separate Level 4 warning signals disruptive rainfall in parts of the Western Cape, where floods could impact roads, settlements, and traffic flow.
Three Yellow Level 2 warnings are also in place. The Eastern Cape coast and its eastern areas are expected to experience disruptive rainfall, while severe thunderstorms are predicted in the western areas of the Free State. These storms could bring strong winds, hail, lightning, and falling trees, posing significant safety risks.
Moreover, a Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging winds is issued for the western parts of the Western Cape and the northern interior of the Eastern Cape. These conditions could affect temporary structures, settlements, and transport routes. In addition to these weather warnings, the central parts of South Africa, including much of KwaZulu-Natal, are under alert for extremely high fire danger.
